Statement

 

My work has its starting point in three fundamental queries that tears at me from their respective positions: perishability, photography and binary oppositions. In many ways, even my interest in these three themes is a contradiction – but even so, they form the foundation of and what can be called the momentum in my artistic enquiry and my work is often conceived in a dialogue between these three factors.

 

Perishability is an important aspect because I seek to make pieces that are temporal by nature. In perishability I see the opportunity for metamorphosis rather than annihilation. Through constantly reworking and further developing my work I seek to give it new context a belief that ebbs out in a belief in art as retroactive.

 

The second element is the drive to be in dialogue with the mediality of photography through a postmedial gaze. I do not see this as a way to make literal comments on photography, but rather as an attempt to view photography from the outside – by approaching its nature through other mediums – by investigating it through cultivation of its core concepts.

 

The last of the three things that propels my practice is my fascination with and scepticism towards binary thinking. I like to put my work in relation to a specific binary system. Often my starting point is just the two binary oppositions and hence my work often ends up being something that floats between binarity – between black and white, between light and darkness, between life and death.
