Androgyny

Androgyny is a term derived from the Greek words ανήρ (anér, meaning man) and γυνή (gyné, meaning woman). Many androgynes identify themselves as being mentally "between" woman and man, or as entirely genderless.

By violently mixing up and distorting both male and female features these portraits blur the boundaries and also question notions of set gendered roles and identities within western contemporary culture.
