The Male Nude
In our society and popular culture we are bombarded by imagery of the naked female to a point that they become mere objects stripped of all individuality, whereas in contrast the male nude is hardly ever present, and even in art, representations of the naked male have been virtually taboo for 400 years. Psychologically, images of the naked male body can be regarded as threatening, or as desirable icons of beauty, or as a reinforcement of patriarchal power.
In this multimedia installation the naked male becomes an object. At first they become objects to the photographer, then when the close up images are displayed on the television screens they become objects to themselves. At this stage they are re-photographed within the installation and at the final stage of the installation they are displayed as objects to the viewer.
